11Reflections: San Antonio

On November 20, 2021, Art2Action and the Carver Community Cultural Center presented the premiere of a new, community co-created theatre work, ELEVEN REFLECTIONS: SAN ANTONIO. This performance was co-produced with the Carver as the culmination of a multi-year residency with artist and founder Andrea Assaf, an award-winning Lebanese American poet, actor, theatre director, and cultural organizer. As part of Art2Action’s larger initiative of new digital and performance works, Eleven Reflections on the Nation (supported in part by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Arts “Building Bridges” program), the Carver’s presentation made San Antonio the first city in the national series. Local and national artists along with San Antonio community members shared their personal experiences, examining the aftermath of 9/11 in the wake of the 20th anniversary of the tragedy.

Featuring: San Antonio's Poet Laureate Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, Flamenco dancer Tamara Adira, actor/writer Kauthar Harrak-Sharif, playwright/performer and activist Anna De Luna, poet Najwa Faiz, community leader Lilly Guindy, writer Ahmed Harrak-Sharif, and special guest, Syrian American vocalist Lubana Al Quntar. Music performed by Orlan “TBow” Gonzales, Ethan Wickman, Housam Harriri, Sarmad Mahmood, and Akram Shehata. Visual Art by Ramin Samandari and Mona Tawil Helmy. Devised and directed by Andrea Assaf.
