From Personal Experience to Creative Expression with Andrea Assaf
Do you have a story to tell, but you’re not sure how to tell it? Are you interested in creative writing or digital storytelling? This interactive workshop offers exercises and practices to guide your journey from embodied experience to creative expression.
As part of her virtual artist residency with AANM, Lebanese American writer and theatre artist Andrea Assaf is launching a Call for Video Submissions from Arab American, SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa), Muslim and allied artists and community members, to share lived experiences related to key themes in her work: Eleven Reflections on the Nation, which explores post-9/11 experiences across the U.S., and the DRONE theatre project (in development during this residency), which documents direct experience with surveillance or militarized drones.
If you are interested in submitting a video, but unsure of which story to tell or how to tell it, this workshop is here to help you find your voice and aesthetic. Or, if you just want to participate in a creative community experience, you’re welcome to join us, too!
The workshop will be facilitated by Andrea Assaf, with break-out groups co-facilitated by professional artists in the ensemble of Andrea’s new play, DRONE.
Meet the artists, explore your creativity, and share your story!
