Reflection Session #1: That Day

Featuring Guest Artist James Scruggs

Tuesday, September 8, 2020

6-7:30pm Central / 7-8:30pm Eastern

In September 2020, Art2Action launches a year-long series of "Reflection Sessions" on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, leading up to the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. Presented by The Carver Community Cultural Center, in conjunction with our 2021 community-engaged theatre project "Eleven Reflections: San Antonio," the online Reflection Sessions are live, interactive, art-based, participatory events reflecting on our nation in the post-9/11 era. Each session will be grounded in a performance excerpt from Eleven Reflections on September, by Andrea Assaf, with special guest artists, creative prompts, and facilitated dialogue.

Our first Reflection Session, on September 8th, will feature the first poem in the Eleven Reflections series, Down – a reflection on that day written by Lebanese American theatre artist Andrea Assaf – in conversation with special guest James Scruggs. James is a writer, performer, producer and arts administrator who creates large scale topical, theatrical, multi-media work. His most recent solo performance tells the story of surviving 9/11 as someone who worked in the Twin Towers in 2001. Join us for a very special evening of powerful work and creative conversation.
