Reflection Session #11: Quadroon

Special Guest: Rasha Abdulhadi

Tuesday, July 13, 2021

6-7:30pm Central / 7-8:30pm Eastern

Our July episode features Palestinian American poet Rasha Abdulhadi. This episode will feature the poem "Quadroon" from Eleven Reflections -- with the all-new digital design! -- and Rasha's own poetry. Join us for a rich conversation  on the complexities of hybrid and intersectional Arab American identities, current events, poetic interventions, and more!

Rasha is a queer Palestinian Southerner who grew up between Damascus,  Syria and rural Georgia and cut their teeth organizing on the southsides  of Atlanta and Chicago. They are a member of Alternate ROOTS,  Southerners on New Ground, Justice for Muslims Healing Collective, and  the Radius of Arab American Writers (RAWI). Rasha's work has appeared in  Mizna, Room, Lambda Literary, and Strange Horizons, and is anthologized in Luminescent Threads: Connections to Octavia Butler and Halal if You Hear Me. As a community technologist, urban farmer, and once and future beekeeper, Rasha is a geek for science both fiction and fact. Rasha is a former Executive Director of Split This Rock Poetry Festival. They edit fiction at Strange Horizons. Their chapbook who is owed springtime is coming out in 2021.

This event is part of a year-long series of Reflection Sessions held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Launched in September 2020 by Art2Action and the Carver Community Cultural Center,   this series will continue through the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 later   this year, in conjunction with our 2021 community-engaged theatre   project "Eleven Reflections on the Nation: San Antonio." These online   sessions are live, interactive, art-based, participatory events   reflecting on our nation in the post-9/11 era. Each session is grounded   in a performance excerpt from Eleven Reflections on September, by Andrea Assaf, with guest artists, creative prompts, and facilitated dialogue.
