Story Circle - A Community Workshop with Andrea Assaf

Saturday, September 10, 11AM - 1 PM PDT

Brava Theater Center Cabaret

Do you have a story to share? As we reflect on the 21st anniversary of 9/11, Andrea Assaf invites Southwest/Central Asian and North African (SWANA), Middle Eastern/North African/South Asian (MENASA), Muslim, and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community members, and creative allies, to share stories. Join Art2Action and Brava! For Women in the Arts for a special opportunity to build community in the San Francisco Bay area.

This iteration, 11Reflections: San Francisco, invites artists of color, community members, and creative allies in the Bay Area to participate in Story Circles, workshops, creative writing, and theatre-makeing over the next year, in response to the question: What has the impact of the post-9/11 era been in your city? While centering SWANA, MENASA, and Muslim American stories, the project will explore the interconnected impacts for multiple, intersecting communities in the Bay Area, by lifting up YOUR stories. We’re excited to exchange and collaborate with Bay Area organizations and community groups such as Golden Thread Productions, the Shahrazad Squad, and more!

This space is offered as part of a series inviting artists of color, community members, and creative allies in the Bay Area to participate in Story Circles, workshops, creative writing, and theatre-making over the next year, in response to the question: What has the impact of the post-9/11 era been in your city?  and inviting communities to reflect with us, not only on the tragedy of that day, but also on the 20 years of war and policies that followed. This initiative, Eleven Reflections on the Nation, springs from Andrea  Assaf's seminal work, Eleven Reflections on September -- a poetry and multi-media performance on Middle Eastern American experience in the post-9/11 era. But this time, YOUR VOICES will be at the center.

Please join us for grounding, story sharing, deep listening, and creative reflection. We look forward to being in community with you.

Can't make this event, but have a post-9/11 story to share? You're also invited to use this form, hosted by the Arab American National Museum, to share your story: CALL FOR VIDEOS & CREATIVE SUBMISSIONS
